Response to Deadly Events in Pittsburgh Synagogue

We are grieved and distraught by the tragic events at Congregation Tree of Life in the Pittsburgh area, where a shooter yelling, “All Jews must die,” claimed the lives of eight people and left other casualties, including three police officers shot in the line of duty. The gunman has been arrested.

Beth-El Zedeck expresses our sympathies and solidarity with the families of the victims and of all members of our sister congregation. We pray for an end to the climate of violence and to the rhetoric of intolerance that fans the flames of hatred in our nation. We are heartened by the many expressions of support and friendship we have received from the interfaith and civic communities.

We write to inform you that we are reinforcing security for our synagogue and our religious school and, in cooperation with the JCRC and the JCCA, are working with law enforcement and security authorities of IPD and the Marion County Sheriff’s office to assure the safety of all persons in our facilities.

All activities, programs and services will continue to be offered.

Shabbat Shalom and Shavua Tov.
